SEW COOL
I FINALLY got around to some sewing that's been waiting for me forever... however I have yet to start working on Fanime cosplays... T_T

I've had this dress with crochet/lace details on it since high school but I never wore it because I didn't like the top part, or maybe just the details on top and bottom together were too much. So today, I decided to chop it in half and make the bottom part into a skirt, since I still like it.
Photobucket

Uh yeah... kinda forgot to take a "before" picture of the dress lol. This is the top.
Photobucket

I'm thinking of attaching a skirt out of the butterfly fabric... still need to decide cut/shape.
Photobucket

And then... I'm FINALLY resizing this Avatar shirt that I got at the Comic-con panel from like... 3 years ago? ><;
This is technically not step 1 because I already cut the collar but this is the original shirt, mostly.
Photobucket

I usually use a baby tee as a template but I wanted to try a different cut so I'm using this shirt that I really like~
Photobucket

There goes the collar
Photobucket

Never underestimate the power of symmetry! I did trace both sides of the shirt when I laid it on top, but I chose the neater side to fold on top and follow when I cut the shirt.
Photobucket

There we go
Photobucket

I sewed the side seams and tried on the shirt to see the fit. I think half the time I spend sewing is trying on the clothes... putting it on the dressform is not quite the same.
There was a time when t-shirts had wide, unfinished collars, but we're much classier than that...
Photobucket

Here I added together the measurements of the front and back neck opening so I know how much collar fabric to cut.
Photobucket

...so I kinda skipped like 8 steps but here, I just cut out a strip of fabric from the leftover sleeve fabric and divided it into a longer and shorter piece to correspond to the wider front neck opening and the smaller back neck opening. I then sewed the ends together and proceeded to triplefold it (basically like bias tape). I'M SORRY IF THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
Photobucket

I then divided the collar piece and neck opening in quarters, marking the intervals with chalk. ...I can tell you're confused.
Photobucket

So here's a diagram! Accompanied by a pretty unhelpful photo. But see, I've matched up the shoulder seam with the seam of the collar! It's prettier this way.
Photobucket

The finished collar! ...kinda looks like shit.
Photobucket

But it looks great from afar! Hurray!

And a preview of the next shirt...

Okay now it's time to work on cosplays...

Totally want your ability to alter clothing. 8O!!

Just try basing it on other clothes you own~ :D

your diagram looks like most of my diagrams.

Maybe I should try altering stuff. I want to make more non-cosplay clothes, but don't get around to it. But maybe with a smaller time involved since it's partially done, I would. (though what changes to make beyond my already typical replacing of buttons)

Funny enough, I'll jump on alteration projects right when I'm supposed to be working on cosplay hahaah... it's a sort of procrastination, I suppose.

I usually spend much longer on non-cosplay projects because I have much higher standards since you don't really want people to be able to tell that you made it because of crappy seams or something lol. But I've recently gotten some nice Japanese sewing books with clothes that I actually want to make and that I couldn't make by just looking at the clothes (which is basically what you do in cosplay).

The skirt is so pretty, and the avatar shirt =o.O= you really know how to make a T look sexy. I am so impressed! I ... Really need to do some serious sewing.. Up for a cosplay work weekend?? ^^;

Hahha you can make a t-shirt look sexy too~~ I'm just camwhoring a little too much these days hahaha.

I also have to work on Artist Alley stuff so I'd rather stay next to my desktop in case I get tired of sewing, since I can just spend some time on drawing. But for AX, for sure!! I'm not doing Artist Alley there.
